open firmware for SoundTouch hardware
A community-built (currently a community of one) Linux platform for exploring, repairing, and extending Bose SoundTouch devices.

02
Audio, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Ethernet, USB, serial, buttons, the OLED display, and the IR remote all work on spotty_sm2, as do USB boot, installation to internal flash, and recovery of a device that no longer boots. What is missing is an application on top: nothing yet reacts to a keypress or plays music by itself.
03
The recommended build uses TI’s Ubuntu 22.04 container image through Distrobox or Podman. A device can run libretouch from a USB drive, over a USB network link, or installed to its internal flash — the stock bootloader is kept in place either way. See the build guide.
Current focus
Bringing a transparent, reproducible Linux system to hardware that was never intended to be open.
Actual focus
Having fun with hardware, software and AI-supported engineering.
